Simon Cook
2001/2002 – Special Achievement Award Winner
Simon joined DETA in January 2000 as a Careership Trainee, having become dis-engaged from the education system at 14 years of age. He completed a level 2 Foundation Engineering NVQ and then spent some time trying to find work. He was employed by G&S Engineering in November 2001. He then returned to DETA to complete the welding units of the NVQ. Simon progressed onto the Advanced Apprenticeship, during the three years that he was working towards this programme he went to work for Carver Engineering and the Polypipe to gain the additional experience that was required to complete the apprenticeship.
