Engineering Advanced Apprenticeship - Doncaster Engineering Training Association

This qualification is designed to provide apprentices with basic and advanced engineering skills.  The initial stage of the training is delivered on a block release basis in the DETA Training Centre, the method of block release will be negotiated with the employer but ideally will not be for less than alternate two week sessions between the workplace and the training centre.  The second stage of the training is delivered primarily in the workplace, with additional training being undertaken in the DETA Training Centre when required.  Apprentices must be employed to undertake this qualification.

Qualification Structure

Initial stage NVQ

A minimum of 6 units from Performing Engineering Operations level 2

2nd stage NVQ *

An occupationally specific NVQ at level 3 taken from the list below:

• Electrical and Electronic Engineering
• Engineering Leadership
• Engineering Maintenance
• Fabrication and Welding Engineering
• Installation and Commissioning
• Material Processing and Finishing
• Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering

Key Skills

Communication, Application of Number, Information and Communication Technology, Working with Others and Improving Own Learning and Performance  at level 2

Technical Certificate

A two year further education course which could be:

City and Guilds 2800 or a BTEC National Certificate, dependent upon the occupational area and the academic ability of the apprentice.
